Lots of good things are happening at BSA Hospital. John McKissack, marketing exec at BSA, shared some of the happenings at the hospital complex. They're building a new physical plant; they're adding a $1.3 million pharmacy; they're abating asbestos from the 40-plus-year-old building; and BSA has a dynamic new CEO, Bob Williams, who John says brings "great knowledge about the changing medical landscape." And change is coming, John said, with the passage of the health care reform plan pushed by President Obama. Some warning signs are looming, John said, such as the possible doctor shortage that is coming up as doctors find the cost of practicing medicine too much for them to handle. It's instructive, though, for us to look at ourselves in the mirror. The nation continues to have a significant, and growing, weight problem. Better attention to healthier living should become a top priority, according to John. Thanks so much, John, for enlightening us.

Club President Karen Hicks was in a giving mood this week. Karen handed out checks to three great organizations, with proceeds coming from our recent Garden Party. The YMCA got $15,400; Life Challenge received $800 and WT's Rotaract Club received $200. Our commitment to the Y continues with our fundraising efforts, said Karen, who thanked our own Bob Dunstan for the great work he does with Life Challenge, and for the help Life Challenge gives to us in our myriad efforts. And congratulations to Rotaract for furthering Rotary among our younger folks.

Be sure to go to the District 5730 Web site to see the latest newsletter, which is published monthly. Go www.ridistrict5730.org and take a look. There's lots of information for us.

And this just in from District Governor Jim Cole: Don't forget to donate items for the silent auction at the Tejas Multi-District Conference in San Antonio, set for April 29 through May 2. Funds raised will go to the Rotary Foundation. If a Club desires, they may send a check and items will be purchased and placed in the silent auction with the club listed as donor. Please mail checks or items to DG Jim Cole, 110 Fannin Ave., Levelland TX 79336, or Pat Cowan, 2211 South College Ave., Levelland TX 79336. Or ... you can bring them to the conference.

Many thanks to greeters Dale Bippus and Jeff Neely; to Xavier Candelaria for selling tickets; to Jess Ghormley for leading us in song; to Julie Ontiveros for a stirring invocation and to Larry Castor for introducing visitors.

The Foundation drawing pot is now well past $2,000. The deck is getting slim, but the cash pile is getting fatter.
